THE leaders of Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) has expressed support for Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad as Malaysia’s 8th Prime Minister.

The group communicated this to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah, during their audience with His Majesty today.

GPS Parliamentary chief whip Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof informed reporters of the Sarawak political coalition’s stand on the matter.

“I wrote down the name of Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad as my choice for Prime Minister.

“There was no discussion, (we) only had to fill in a form on who (our) choice for the Prime Minister is,” he told members of the media as he left Istana Negara here, this afternoon.

Fadillah was among 90 federal lawmakers who had an audience with the King to inform His Majesty of who they support in the formation of the next government.

Meanwhile, Barisan Nasional (BN), Parti Bersatu Rakyat Sabah (PBRS) and Pas have called for Parliament to be dissolved to resolve the country’s political crisis.

Umno secretary-general Tan Sri Annuar Musa said the parties presented their stand to the Yang Di-Pertuan Agong, Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah, today.

He said such a stand is necessary following suggestions to create a ‘unity government’ comprising political party leaders.

“The concept of a unity government generally contradicts the policies set by the parties. All calculations must take into account party policies.

“Following a discussion by the parties, we have concluded that we cannot hide this from the people.

“We are asking for Parliament to be dissolved and for the people be allowed to decide,” he told a press conference at Menara Dato’ Onn here, today. – NST
