A GIRL who owned four cats and one dog has died from rabies on Nov 11 at the Sarawak General Hospital in Kuching, the sixth such fatality reported in Sarawak this year.
Health Director-General Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the victim was admitted into the hospital a day earlier after having fever for three days and showing aggressive behaviour and weakness in lower limbs.
“Investigations showed that she did not have any history of being bitten by any of her pets, save for some scratches which had healed on her right leg, but her family members could not provide details on the wound,” Dr Noor Hisham said in a statement.
He added that all her pets had not been vaccinated until now and were all healthy and did not show changes in behaviour.
The victim is the 28th fatal cases reported in Sarawak since the rabies outbreak was declared in the state on July 31 2017.
