THE government, with the cooperation of local telecommunication companies, will provide 1GB free internet to all users from 8am to 6pm daily, prime minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said today.
He announced this when unveiling the short-term National Economic Recovery Plan (PENJANA) and explained that the free internet initiative would be provided until Dec 31 this year to enable users to surf educational websites and to utilise video conference applications.
“Apart from that, all users will also get unlimited free access to government websites and Covid-19 applications, especially MySejahtera,” he said.
He also said Malaysians will receive RM50 worth of e-wallet credits to encourage safe and contact-free payment.
This initiative worth RM750 million would benefit about 15 million Malaysians, starting next month.
“In this new norm, more Malaysians have chosen to use contactless payments.
“An additional RM50 in value would also be provided through vouchers, cashbacks and discounts by e-wallets,” he said. – Bernama
