FOUR air force personnel were killed in a shooting incident at the Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) Camp in Kota Samarahan, this morning.
It is learnt that the incident happened when one of the four killed took his weapon and fired at three of his colleagues, just before their night shift ended.
Sarawak Police Commissioner, Datuk Aidi Ismail confirmed that the incident happened at the RMAF Handau Skuadron 330 guard post at about 7.50am.
“Preliminary investigations showed one of the personnel shot the three men as they were handing over duty, before he took his own life,” he said in a brief statement today.
Aidi said two of those shot succumbed to their injuries at the scene, while another, badly injured managed to drive to the military clinic located inside the camp to seek medical help.
“The third victim who took a bullet in his stomach died shortly after while receiving treatment at the Kota Samarahan Heart Centre,” he said.
He said the Forensic Unit from Sarawak Police Contingent and Sarawak General Hospital are present at the scene.
“Further investigations are still ongoing to identify what actually transpired at the scene,” he added.
Meanwhile, the RMAF in a statement said the incident is under police investigation and urged all quarters not to speculate on the shooting.
“At the same time, the RMAF will also set up a special investigation board to identify the actual cause of the incident,” it read. – NST
