WITH hospitals in Sarawak and Kelantan are running out of beds to handle Covid-19 patients, the Federal Government is looking at the possibility of setting up field hospitals in these two states.

Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Adham Baba said the ministry was currently in talks with the Defence Ministry on the matter as they try to reduce the pressures faced by existing hospitals due to the spike in the number of cases.

“The field hospitals will be able to receive the increasing number of Covid-19 cases. The hospitals are currently facing a surge of patients, especially in ICU and CCU wards.”

He said currently 35.4% of Covid-19 patients are in the Category 4 and 5, compared to 25.2% last month and 17.2% in March.

Dr Adham added there was an upward trend in the number of cases in the two categories since January.

Sarawak recorded 587 new Covid-19 cases on Sunday, while Kelantan had 400 new cases.

The total number of cases in Sarawak is now 31,691, with 182 deaths.
