THE Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah has declared an emergency in Batu Sapi, Sabah and the by-election there has been postponed.

In a statement issued by Istana Negara, Comptroller of the Royal Household Datuk Ahmad Fadil Shamsuddin said the King made the decision to avoid a fourth wave of Covid-19 infections.

“With this proclamation, all proceedings for the Batu Sapi by-election will be discontinued and a new date will be determined for the by-election.”

Nomination day for the Batu Sapi by-election was originally slated for Monday next week.

The statement said the decision was made after Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin met the King earlier today.

It also said that the King had taken into account the experience from the Sabah elections, which was the main factor for the current third wave of Covid-19 infections.
