DESPITE the increase in Covid-19 cases in Sarawak, eight men decided to continue running the illegal cock fighting activities, only to end up RM10,000 poorer each.

Kapit police nabbed the eight men yesterday and they were given the hefty fines for breaching CMCO SOPs.

Dayak Daily reports Kapit district police chief DSP Freddy Bian saying that at about 2.45pm, a CID team raided an open space behind a house at Taman Country Height following a tip-off on illegal cock fighting activity.

“During the raid, the team arrested eight men aged between 45 and 54. They also seized 10 cock fighting spurs, seven live roosters, a dead one and a weighing machine,” he said.

The suspects are also being investigated under Section 3(1) of the Cruelty to Animals Act 1963.

Bian said a compound of RM10,000 were issued to each of them for the SOP offence under the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases (Measures Within the Infected Local Areas) Regulations 2020.
