Don’t expect to be let off easy if not doing a good job, mayor told

Kuching South City Council mayor Datuk Wee Hong Seng should not expect the community to go easy on him if he’s busy playing politics or not doing his job properly, a state DAP leader warned.

Michael Kong, a special assistant to Sarawak DAP chairman, said that Wee should also learn to distinguish constructive criticisms and destructive remarks.

“All that was asked was for him (Wee) was to extend his walks to areas within other constituencies like Kota Sentosa and also to ask (Chief Minister) Abang Johari to allow equal allocations for all assemblymen,” Kong said in a statement.

Citing the Stampin Resettlement Scheme as an example, he said the area has been plagued with issues for decades and the mayor should go there to see the problems for himself.

Kong added that he had written letters inviting Wee to go down and understand the people’s plight but the offer was rejected.

Wee had earlier said that the Chinese should not make things difficult for the Chinese following Kong’s criticisms that the mayor was focussing his work in Padungan, while neglecting areas like Pending, Batu Lintang and Kota Sentosa.

“Wee Hong Seng has to remember that he is a mayor for the people within Kuching South i.e. Malay, Dayaks, Indians or Chinese,” Kong added.
