DBKU officers remanded for alleged power abuse and graft

TWO officers from the Kuching North City Hall (DBKU) have been remanded to assist into investigations on alleged graft and abuse of power related to a housing project along Jalan Sultan Tengah.

Magistrate Zaiton Anuar today allowed the application from the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) to remand the duo for two and four days, respectively.

A 34-year-old, who is a division head of the local council, will be remanded for two days until June 20 while the other officer, 32, who is a unit head, will be remanded for four days until June 22.

They were nabbed by MACC officers at 6.15pm yesterday for allegedly misusing their positions and office to receive bribes and issue occupational permits to a property developer in 2019.

However, the amount of money involved is yet to be identified or confirmed.

They are being investigated under Section 23 of the MACC Act 2009 (abuse of power for personal gratification). – New Straits Times
