SARAWAK DAP has launched a free transport service for those going for vaccinations in Kuching.
State party chairman Chong Chieng Jen said the free taxi initiative was to help those who have difficulty in going to vaccination centres for their inoculations.
He said the initiative would also help taxi drivers whose incomes have been severely affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.
The DAP is working with the Kuching Taxi Association on this initiative.
Chong said this would also help keep people from missing their appointments due to transport issues while at the same time help accelerate the immunisation programme.
The party aims to provide 100 taxis for those going for vaccinations.
The Kota Sentosa assemblyman said during a Facebook live session today that although the state government provided some financial assistance to taxi drivers, they were still finding it difficult to make ends meet.
Chong said although the service was targeted for 100 taxis, the initiative will be continued if more people required the services.
Those who need the transport service are urged to contact either Chong, Pending assemblywoman Violet Yong, Bandar Kuching MP Dr Kelvin Yii or any of Chong’s special assistants Michael Kong, Sim Kiat Leng and Abdul Aziz Isa.
They should call one or two days earlier so that arrangements can be made.
