THE upcoming DAP national congress has been postponed due to the current movement control order (MCO), said DAP organising secretary Anthony Loke.
The new date for the congress can only be set after the government announces the end of the MCO, he said.
“The DAP national headquarters received a response from the Registrar of Societies (ROS) director-general Jasri Kassim dated June 11 on our appeal to postpone the DAP national congress.
“In the letter, the ROS decided that general annual meetings for all registered organisations including political parties must be postponed throughout the MCO.
“The ROS also wants us to suggest a new date for the DAP national congress with additional SOPs as soon as the MCO ends,” Loke said in a statement today as reported by Malaysiakini.
The DAP national congress was initially scheduled for June 20, but in mid-May, the party had already written to the ROS seeking a postponement.
