Covid-19: Two Kuching clusters end, one new case in Lawas

TWO Covid-19 clusters in Kuching ended today, with four active ones remaining, as Sarawak recorded one new case in Lawas, bringing the total to 1,068 cases.

The Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) said the Baki and Seladah cluster ended today after no new cases were reported in the past 28 days. They were linked to 12 and nine cases respectively.

The remaining active clusters in Sarawak are Besi, Jalan Abell, Grenhill and Wisma Saberkas, all in Kuching, the SDMC said in a statement.

Sarawak’s latest Covid-19 case involves a man who had just returned from Sabah where he was working.

He returned to the state via ICQ Merapok, Lawas on Nov 28 using a private vehicle with two friends and was quarantined upon arrival. Contact tracing is underway.

Meanwhile, Health Director-General Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said 1,123 new cases were reported nationwide today, bringing the total to 71,359 cases.

Sabah continues to top the list with 391 new cases, followed by Kuala Lumpur (265) and Selangor (221).

There were also four new deaths, two from Sabah and one each from Johor and Selangor. Total fatal cases nationwide is now 380.

There were 1,143 recoveries today, with the total now 60,204 or a recovery rate of 84.4 per cent.
