Covid-19: Total cases now stands at almost 99,000, four in Sarawak today

THERE were 1,348 new Covid-19 cases today, a decrease of more than 700 cases from yesterday.

There were also five deaths in the country over past 24 hours.

Health Ministry director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said this brings the total number of cases to 98,737 while the death toll is now 444.

He said there were 710 recoveries, bringing the total number of discharges to 80,014.

Three of the deaths were in Selangor while there was one each in Sabah and Negeri Sembilan.

All involved locals aged between 40 and 71, who had pre-existing medical conditions.

Selangor again had the highest number of cases today with 535 infections, followed by Kuala Lumpur (226), Sabah (189), Malacca (124) and Johor (118).

Pahang had 45 cases followed by Penang (43), Negeri Sembilan (31), Kedah (14) and Perak (eight).

There were four cases each in Sarawak, Kelantan and Putrajaya, Labuan had two while Terengganu had one.

Five new Covid-19 clusters were detected – the Saga Tengah cluster in Sabah; Jalan Panah construction site cluster in Kuala Lumpur; Menara Wang cluster involving Pahang, Selangor and Kuala Lumpur; the Hala Mutiara cluster in Perak; and the Kolam Air cluster in Kedah.
