Covid-19: Three new clusters in Sarawak, plywood factory has 113 cases

MALAYSIA recorded 6,387 new Covid-19 cases and 77 deaths in the past 24 hours.

Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the total number of infections now stands at 785,039, with 69,447 active cases.

There are 923 patients in the ICU 433 on ventilators.

The 77 deaths, including four foreigners, bring the number of fatalities to 5,574.

Dr Noor Hisham said 13 of them were brought in dead. There were no deaths in Sarawak today and its toll stands at 419.

Selangor continues to top the list with 2,610 cases, followed by Kuala Lumpur (819), Negeri Sembilan (523), Sarawak (424), Johor (324), Pahang (312), Kedah (273), Sabah (263), Perak (249), Malacca (206), Penang (157), Kelantan (114), Labuan (71), Putrajaya (25) and Terengganu (17).

There are no new cases in Perlis.

Meanwhile, the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee said a large number of cases were detected at a plywood factory in Kuala Baram, Miri.

A mass screening exercise there saw 113 cases, with 107 of them being foreigners.

The workers quarters have been placed under EMCO until July 15, while the factory was fined RM10,000 for operating without approval and having more than 50 per cent of its workforce capacity.

Total cases in Sarawak stands 66,985.

There are three new clusters in the state today, including the Baram factory cluster dubbed the Industry 121 Kuala Baram Cluster.

The others are the Sega Cluster in Bau (17 cases) and Sungai Sebetan Cluster in Saratok (45 cases).

There are now 98 active clusters in Sarawak with 13 reporting new cases today.
