SARAWAK recorded one new Covid-19 case today, involving a 55-year-old man who had returned from Amsterdam where he was working as an offshore scaffolder. This brings the total number of cases in Sarawak to 688.

The Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) in a statement today said the patient, a local, arrived in KLIA from Amsterdam on Aug 15 after a transit in Doha, Qatar. He flew to Miri from KLIA the following day and was sent to a quarantine centre.

“Before flying to Malaysia, the case had been screened in Amsterdam where he was tested negative. In KLIA, the patient was screened using the RTK Antigen where he was also tested negative,” the committee said, adding that the patient did not show any symptoms.

During his quarantine in a hotel in Miri, the patient was again swabbed on Aug 18 and the lab results showed that he was positive for Covid-19.

Contact tracing and further investigations are ongoing and the case has been classified as an imported one, the SDMC added.

The committee also announced the end of the Kuching construction company cluster, which was linked to two positive cases.
