Covid-19: Sarawak records 703 cases, second highest in the country

THE number of new Covid-19 cases has come down for the fourth consecutive day with the health ministry reporting 5,271 infections today.

Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the total number of cases is now 622,086, with 84,269 active cases .

There are 902 patients in the ICU, with 447 on ventilators.

He said 82 deaths were reported today, bringing the total number of fatalities to 3,460.

Selangor recorded 1,374 cases, followed by Sarawak (703), Negeri Sembilan (571), Kuala Lumpur (455), Johor (355), Kelantan (341), Sabah (336), Labuan (209), Kedah (194), Malacca (178), Perak (177), Penang (153), Terengganu (117), Pahang (99), Putrajaya (8) and Perlis (1).

Meanwhile in Sarawak, almost half of the 703 cases were in Kuching, Miri and Tanjung Manis.

SDMC said only 39 of the cases showed symptoms during screening.

The state’s total number of cases is now 51,874.

There were four reported deaths in Sarawak today, bringing the death toll to 326.

The fatalities were in Sri Aman, Kapit, Mukah and Miri, with the victims aged between 50 and 72. All had existing medical conditions.

SDMC said four new Covid-19 clusters were also declared today.

They are the Jalan Airport cluster in Miri with 12 cases, Jalan Ilmu in Miri (24 cases), Jalan Masket in Sebauh (17 cases) and Sungai Durin cluster in Sibu (22 cases).

There are a total of 77 active clusters in Sarawak.
