Covid-19: Sarawak records 654 cases as nationwide tally dips

THE Health Ministry has reported 6,824 new Covid-19 cases today, bringing the country’s total to 572,,357.

Health director general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said Selangor recorded the highest number of cases with 2,111 infections.

It was followed by Kelantan (695), Sarawak (654), Johor (489), Kedah (464), Kuala Lumpur (387), Malacca (352), Penang (328), Perak (255), Negeri Sembilan (253), Pahang (219), Sabah (207), Terengganu (204), Labuan (166), Putrajaya (28) and Perlis (12).

He said there were 67 deaths today, bringing the number of fatalities to 2,796.

There are 79,523 active cases, with 851 patients in the ICU and 422 are on ventilators.

Meanwhile, Sarawak recorded a record high of 10 Covid-19 deaths today.

The state’s death toll is now 294 while the total number of infections is 47,329 cases.

Today’s deaths were in Miri (4), Sibu (2), Sri Aman (2), Kapit (1) and Kuching (1).

On the new infections, Kuching recorded the most with 219 cases followed by Sibu (102), Miri (84), Bintulu (54), Samarahan (33), Tanjung Manis (27), Kapit (17), Lubok Antu (17), Betong (15), Mukah (13) and Sri Aman (10).

Bau had nine cases, Asajaya (9), Subis (7), Lundu (7), Meradong (7), Serian (5), Julau (3), Tatau (3), Bukit Mabong (2), Kanowit (2), Sarikei (2), Dalat (2), Pakan (2), Beluru (1), Saratok (1) and Selangau (1).

Sarawak declared three new Covid-19 clusters, with the largest one called the Muara Tabuan cluster in Kuching.

It was detected in a factory at Persiaran Elektronik 2 in the Sama Jaya Free Industrial Zone and is linked to the earlier Jalan Simpang Tiga cluster.

Some 152 cases have been found so far in this cluster.

The other clusters are the Jalan Jambusan-Sunchar Cluster in Bau and Jalan Coastal Bintulu-Miri Cluster.
