KUCHING has become the epicentre of new Covid-19 cases today with 67 cases being recorded there with the emergence of a new cluster.
State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) chairman Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said this was due to the new Emperoh Jambu Cluster which reported 42 cases in Kuching and another seven in the neighboring Samarahan.
There were a total of 221 cases in Sarawak today and one death was reported.
Sibu had 63 cases, followed by Bintulu (28), Meradong (24), Kapit (15), Samarahan (11), Miri (5), Bau (3), Subis (2), Beluru (1), Betong (1) and Kanowit (1).
Uggah said 89 of the new cases were related to active clusters in the state.
Other clusters were -Sungai Bakong Cluster (19 cases) in Meradong, Gelong Cluster (8) in Kapit, Pasai Cluster had three cases in Sibu and one in Kanowit while the Tangap Sub-Cluster had two cases in Subis.
Kampung Sungai Maong Cluster had two cases in Kuching, Jun Heng Cluster had two cases in Bintulu, Kidurong Dua Cluster had one case in Bintulu and the Univista Cluster recorded two cases in Samarahan.
The total number of Covid-19 cases in Sarawak now stands at 8,164 while the death toll is 74.
The fatality was in Sibu and involved a 58-year-old Sarawakian male who was found positive on Feb 7 and died last Saturday.
He had a medical history of Mixed Connective Tissue Disease.
Meanwhile, the health ministry reported 2,192 Covid-19 cases and six deaths nationwide in the past 24 hours.
Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said there were 3,414 recoveries, bringing the total number of those discharges to 252,623.
He said the total number of infections now stands at 285,761, with 32,076 active cases.
There are 199 patients in ICU, with 91 on respirators.
The six deaths bring the total number of fatalities to 1,062.
