Covid-19: Sarawak records 220 cases, zero deaths

BINTULU recorded the most number of Covid-19 cases in Sarawak as the state registered 220 new cases today.

There were no fatalities reported in Sarawak today.

State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) chairman Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said the district had 57 new cases of Covid-19 and that most were from screening in a high risk area.

He said 33 cases were within the high risk area while 23 cases were from other active case detections.

Apart from Bintulu, the other cases were in Sibu (54), Miri (37), Kapit (20), Kuching (12), Julau (10), Dalat (8), Sarikei (5), Meradong (5), Betong (4), Song (2), Subis (1), Bau (1), Mukah (1), Samarahan (1), Bukit Mabong (1) and Selangau (1).

The total number of infections in Sarawak is now 9,765 cases.

Meanwhile, the Bedayan Cluster in Serian ended today after no new cases were recorded in the past 28 days.

The cluster involved villages in Serian and Samarahan districts and had recorded a total 17 cases with 548 individuals screened.

Uggah said 26 Covid-19 clusters were still active in Sarawak.

Nationwide, there were 1,828 Covid-19 cases and five deaths in the past 24 hours.

Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said there were 2,486 recoveries, bringing the total number of discharges to 275,903.

He said the total number of infections now stands at 302,580, with 25,542 active cases.

There are 198 patients in the ICU with 90 on respirators.

The five deaths bring the number of fatalities to 1,135.

Johor had the highest number of cases with 490 infections, followed by Selangor (453), Sarawak (220), Negeri Sembilan (167), Perak (144) and Sabah (104).
