A MAN who is undergoing home quarantine at his longhouse in Meradong, Sarikei has been tested positive for Covid-19.

Sarawak Disaster Management Committee in a statement said the man had arrived in Sibu from Kuala Lumpur on Dec 19.

“He initially tested negative on Dec 15 when he was in Kuala Lumpur. However, his test result on the eighth day of home quarantine came back positive yesterday,” the committee said.

“According to the man, he has never left his longhouse Rumah Uming in Sungai Mador, but said he had meals together with his family members and received a few guests from the same longhouse during Christmas.”

The committee said the close contacts of the man, including family members and residents of the same longhouse have been ordered to undergo quarantine at designated centres.

Meanwhile active contact tracing is being carried out and over 100 residents of the longhouse will be screened.
The committee has classified it as an imported case while there is no other local transmission detected today.

To date, Sarawak reported a total of 1,115 Covid-19 cases, including 19 deaths.
