SARAWAK reported 199 new Covid-19 cases and no deaths today.
State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) said Sibu had the most cases with 41 infections, followed by Kapit (33), Kuching (33), Miri (22), Song (19), Bintulu (8), Tatau (8), Serian (6), Bau (6), Betong (6), Samarahan (4), Bukit Mabong (3), Mukah (2) and Pusa (2).
There was one case each in Dalat, Saratok, Sarikei, Sri Aman, Subis and Selangau, bringing the total number of cases in Sarawak to 11,710.
SDMC said 169 of the new cases today were asymptomatic when screened.
A new cluster was also detected in Pusa today – the Melor Cluster, which involves people who had congregated for prayers at a surau in Kampung Beladin.
The cluster has been traced to Lorong Melor in the village, with the index case being a 23-year-old local woman.
Thirteen positive cases have been detected linked to the cluster so far with 355 people being screened.
Meanwhile, the health ministry said 1,448 Covid-19 cases and five deaths were reported today.
Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said there were 2,137 recoveries, bringing the total number of discharges to 298,516.
The total number of infections now stands at 317,717, with 18,010 active cases.
There are 151 patients in the ICU, with 72 on respirators.
The five fatalities bring the death toll to 1,191.
All involved Malaysians between the ages of 43 and 72, and all had existing medical conditions.
Selangor had the highest number of cases with 561 infections, followed by Johor (273), Sarawak (199), Kuala Lumpur (103) Penang (99), Perak (83), Sabah (54), Kedah (20), Kelantan (19), Malacca (11), Negeri Sembilan (10), Terengganu (8), Perlis (7) and Pahang (1).
