Covid-19: One dead, more new cases than recoveries today

A 77-YEAR-OLD woman is the country’s latest Covid-19 death, as the number of new cases for the past 24 hours exceed those discharged from hospitals.

Health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the woman died at a medical centre in Pahang at 3.09am yesterday.

“The patient was a local woman who had a medical history of diabetes, high blood pressure and liver cancer,” he said during a daily press briefing at the ministry.

Meanwhile, Dr Noor Hisham said there were 37 new Covid-19 cases, of which two were imported, with 35 local transmission involving 22 non Malaysian citizens.

The total number of positive cases in the country now stands at 6,978.

Thirty-one patients have been discharged from hospitals nationwide today, bringing the total number of recoveries to 5,646.

Dr Noor Hisham added that there are 11 Covid-19 patients currently treated at the Intensive Care Unit with six requiring respiratory support.

Meanwhile, in Sarawak, no need positive cases were reported for the sixth consecutive day, while two patients have been discharged.
