Covid-19: New cases rise above 7,000 with Sarawak recording 703 infections

THE Health Ministry has reported 7,105 new Covid-19 cases and 71 deaths today, bringing the total number of infections in the country to 579,462.

Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said Selangor recorded the highest number of cases with 2,068.

Kuala Lumpur had 817 cases,  followed by Sarawak (703), Kelantan (531), Johor (431), Penang (400), Negeri Sembilan (397), Perak (387), Sabah (318), Malacca (249), Kedah (236), Terengganu (198), Pahang (190), Labuan (162) and Putrajaya (18).

There were no new cases in Perlis.

Dr Noor Hisham said there were 80,474 active cases, with 872 patients in the ICU and 419 on ventilators.

The 71 deaths bring the number of fatalities to 2,867.

Meanwhile Sarawak recorded six deaths today, raising the state’s total fatalities to 300.

The total number of cases is now 48,032.

The six deaths were Sibu (2 cases), Bintulu, Mukah, Serian and Kuching.

Sarawak Disaster Management Committee said Kuching had the most cases at 218, followed by Bintulu (142), Miri (98), Sibu (40), Marudi (32), Kapit (31), Samarahan (16), Beluru (13), Serian (12), Betong (10), Bukit Mabong (8), Subis (8), Sarikei (8), Tatau (7), Sri Aman (7), Meradong (7), Selangau (6), Lubok Antu (6), Tanjung Manis (5), Matu (4), Pakan (4), Lawas (4), Kabong (3), Sebauh (3), Mukah (3), Kanowit (2), Limbang (2), Asajaya (1), Song (1), Dalat (1) and Simunjan (1).

There was a new cluster in Sarawak today – Jalan Haji Lampam in Miri.

The workplace cluster has 22 cases so far.
