Covid-19: New cases dip below 1,000, two in Sarawak

There were 958 new Covid-19 cases and three deaths in the past 24 hours.

Health Ministry director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said there are now 13,221 active cases, with 110 of them in the ICU.

He said the total number of cases now stands at 52,638 while the death toll stands at 329. All the deaths were in Sabah.

There were 956 recoveries, bringing the total number of those discharged to 39,088.

Sabah reported 512 new cases, followed by Negeri Sembilan and Selangor at 153 cases each, Penang (25) and Perak (24).

Meanwhile, Sarawak has reported two Covid-19 cases, with one linked to the Besi cluster in Kuching.

Sarawak Disaster Management Committee in a statement said the case involved a civil servant in Kuching, who was a close contact of a confirmed case linked to the cluster.

Another case is in Miri, involving a technical executive working with an oil and gas company. The case was detected in a random active case detection while further investigations are required to determine the source of infection.

There are six active clusters in Sarawak, namely Besi with 12 cases, Jalan Abell (15), Baki (33), Seladah (9), Green Hill (91) and Wisma Saberkas (44).

To date, Sarawak has reported 1,055 cases, including 19 deaths.
