Covid-19: Malaysia logs almost 800,000 cases since pandemic started

MALAYSIA continued to record more than 7,000 infections for a second day in a row, with 7,097 new Covid-19 cases reported today.

Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the total number of infections now stands at 799,790, with 74,344 active cases.

There are 948 patients in the ICU and 441 on ventilators.

Dr Noor Hisham said there were 91 deaths today, bringing the death toll to 441.

Selangor had the highest number of cases with 3,119, followed by Kuala Lumpur with 1,005 cases.

Negeri Sembilan had 788 cases, Malacca (358), Sarawak (289), Pahang (258), Sabah (244), Johor (224), Kedah (198), Perak (187), Penang (140), Kelantan (123), Labuan (93), Terengganu (43), Putrajaya (26), and Perlis (2).

Sarawak’s total number of cases now stands at 67,560 while the death toll is 424 with three additional deaths today.

Two new clusters were also declared – the Jalan Tasik Biru by-pass in Bau (19 cases) and Sungai Bedil Besar in Kuching (31 cases).
