AN Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO) will be imposed for 14 days on the flats and Town Villa housing areas in Sibu Jaya starting tomorrow.
Sarawak Disaster Management Committee said the move was expected to affect some 6,000 residents and it was necessary due to the high number of Covid-19 cases there.
SDMC chairman Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said Sibu Jaya town has recorded 247 positive cases, out of which 129 cases were found in the flats and Town Villa housing areas.
On the total number of cases in the state today, he said Sarawak had 135 new Covid-19 cases, bringing the total number of cases past the 6,000 mark to 6,006 cases.
There were no deaths in Sarawak today.
Meanwhile, the Health Ministry said 3,288 Covid-19 cases and 14 deaths were reported nationwide.
Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the total number of cases now stands at 251,604, with 52,186 active cases.
He said 285 patients are in the ICU, with 131 on respirators.
The deaths toll is now 923.
Selangor had 1,757 cases, followed by Kuala Lumpur (408), Johor (369) and Negeri Sembilan (157), while Sabah had 132 cases.
Of the 135 cases in Sarawak, 83 are in Sibu, Bintulu (19), Miri (9), Dalat (6), Julau (5), three in Kuching and Betong, two in Kapit and Lundu, and one each in Kanowit, Serian and Beluru.
