Covid-19: eight new cases in Sarawak, 919 nationwide

SARAWAK reported eight new Covid-19 cases today, comprising seven from Kuching and one from Lawas, bringing the total number of cases in the state to 1,019.

All seven cases from Kuching were close contact of Covid-19 patients while the patient from Lawas had returned from Sabah on Nov 7. The patient was quarantined after upon arrival in Sarawak  and subsequently tested positive.

There are now 118 active cases in Sarawak, while 22 patients were discharged today, bringing the total to 882, or a recovery rate of 86.56 per cent, the State Disaster Management Committee said in a statement.

At the national level, the Health ministry reported 919 new cases and one death in the past 24 hours.

Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said there were 996 recoveries, bringing the total number of those discharged to 32,069.

Meanwhile, the death toll now stands at 303.

The death involved a 66-year-old man at the Tawau Hospital. The death toll in Sabah is 165, or 54.5 percent of total fatal cases in the country.

Active cases are now at 11,419.

Of the 919 new cases, 319 were from Sabah, 240 from Negeri Sembilan and 224 from the Klang Valley.
