ONE more Covid-19 death was recorded today at the National Crisis Disaster and Response Centre, bringing the total number of deaths in Malaysia to nine.

Health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said this was the first death among the health staff involving a Malaysian citizen (890th case) who is a 48-Year-old medical doctor.

The doctor is attached to the Health Ministry and has a history of travelling to Turkey.

He was admitted to the Tuanku Fuziah Hospital in Kangar on March 17, 2020 after experiencing symptoms of acute respiratory infection.

“He was certified positive Covid-19 the next day and was given breathing aid since March 19 after his health condition worsened. He was confirmed dead at 10.33am today.

“We believe the infection was not from other front-liners or from his colleagues. It is likely related to his travel history.

“We are deeply saddened by his death and our condolences to his family,” added Dr Noor Hisham.
