Covid-19: Cases surge past 7,000, highest since June 5

NEW Covid-19 cases continues to rise with 7,654 infections and 103 deaths reported in the past 24 hours.

Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the total number of infections now stands at 792,693, with 72,201 active cases.

There are 943 patients in the ICU, with 450 on ventilators.

The death toll now stands at 5,677.

Selangor had the most cases with 3,260, followed by Kuala Lumpur (1,550), Negeri Sembilan (698), Kedah (337), Johor (313), Sarawak (286), Sabah (225), Malacca (230), Penang (185), Pahang (180), Kelantan (118), Perak (94), Labuan (82), Terengganu (61), Putrajaya (33) and Perlis (2).

Meanwhile in Sarawak, 70% of the cases were detected in five districts- Kuching, Subis, Miri, Sibu and Bintulu.

The state’s total number of cases now stands at 67,271 while the death toll stands at 421, after two more deaths were recorded today.

There is one new cluster today – the Sungai Sengkabang cluster in Subis.

The community cluster involves two longhouses currently under EMCO, with 58 cases reported so far.

Three clusters were also declared to have ended today, bringing the total number of active clusters to 96 in Sarawak.
