Covid-19: 620 new cases and two more clusters in Sarawak

SARAWAK today recorded four Covid-19 deaths as the nationwide toll reached 23 today.

State Disaster Management Committee said this brought the death toll in Sarawak to 188.

There were also 620 new cases today, pushing the state’s tally to 32,667 cases.

SDMC said 64% of today’s cases were in Bintulu, Miri, Kapit, Sibu and Bukit Mabong.

Two of the deaths were in Bintulu and one each in Miri and Sibu. They were aged between 44 and 78, all with medical histories.

Bintulu had 128 cases, followed by Miri (82), Kapit (81), Sibu (55), Bukit Mabong (51), Kanowit (42), Sri Aman (27), Belaga (26), Kuching (18), Beluru (16), Lundu (12), Subis (12), Saratok (11), Tebedu (10), Song (7), Pakan (6), Sarikei (5), Sebauh (5), Tatau (4), Betong (4), Selangau (4), Bau (4), Mukah (3), Meradong (2), Dalat (2), Tanjung Manis (2), and Serian (1).

Two new clusters were declared today – the Mongkos Cluster in Tebedu and Bungey Cluster in Betong.

SDMC also announced that several areas and longhouses in Bintulu and Tatau areas have been placed under EMCO.

Nationwide, there were 3,120 Covid-19 cases and 23 deaths.

Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the total number of infections now stands at 420,632, with 31,516 active cases.

There are 338 patients in the ICU, with 181 on ventilators.

The 23 deaths bring the number of fatalities to 1,574. All were Malaysians with medical histories.

Selangor had the most cases today with 675, followed by Sarawak (620), Kuala Lumpur (408), Johor (336), Kelantan (296), Penang (167), Kedah (155), Perak (117), Negeri Sembilan (95), Sabah (89), Terengganu (53), Malacca (52), Pahang (41), Putrajaya (11) and Labuan (5).
