Covid-19: 205 new cases and 3 deaths in Sarawak

THERE were 3,585 new Covid-19 infections today and the total number of fatalities has now reached 700, with 11 more deaths.

The Health Ministry said the cumulative tally of cases is now 190,434, of which 40,574 are active cases.

There were 4, 076 recoveries today, bringing the total number of recoveries to 149,160.

A total of 280 cases are in the ICU with 111 of them on ventilators.

Selangor registered 1,295 cases today, followed by Kuala Lumpur (610), Johor (516), Sabah (303) and Sarawak (205).

The ministry said seven new Covid-19 clusters were detected in the past 24 hours.

They are the Jalan Cochrane cluster in Kuala Lumpur; Jalan Platinum and Jalan Padi Mahsuri clusters in Johor; Intan Delima cluster in Negeri Sembilan; Kampung Bukit Putera and Tebok Bukit Besi clusters in Terengganu; and Keladi Saga cluster in Kedah.

The Intan Delima cluster involves the matriculation college in Kuala Pilah.

State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) chairman Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said three of the deaths were in Sarawak.

He said all the deaths were in Sibu and this raised the state’s death toll from Covid-19 to 33.

The victims were aged 59, 76 and 91 years.

Douglas Uggah said Sibu had 51 cases today, followed by Kanowit (41), Miri (32), Dalat (22), Bintulu (19), Kuching (10), Kapit (5), Lawas (5), Julau (4), Sarikei (4), Simunjan (3), Pakan (2), Betong (2), Meradong (2), Samarahan (1), Saratok (1), and Marudi (1).

This brings the total number of cases in Sarawak to 3,704.

He said the Pasai Cluster in Sibu recorded 108 cases today, with all the Kanowit cases linked to it.

Other area linked to the cluster are Sibu (29), Dalat (22), Miri (10), Kapit (3), Julau (3), Betong (2), and Sarikei (1).

The Rakut Cluster in Miri recorded a total of 15 new cases.
