KUCHING may see container bus stops if a pilot project here is well received by the public.
Kuching South City Council (MBKS) mayor Datuk Wee Hong Seng said a model “Container Bus Stop” made out of recycled container has been erected near Chung Hua Primary School No 3.
“This is a sample unit that we have built for the free bus service. We want to get the feedback from the people. All comments are welcome as all that we want is for the betterment of the city,” Wee told DayakDaily.
He said the new bus stop has been placed side by side with a conventional one at Jalan Padungan for comparison.
To implement the free bus service in Kuching, MBKS has identified 12 locations under its jurisdiction to build bus stops for the programme which was supposed to begin in April this year.
Wee said there was an allocation of RM20,000 for each bus stop and the recycled container costs between RM6,000 to RM7,000.
“The painting job is done by JCI (Junior Chamber International). The balance that we have, we can use to make more such bus stops in the city.”
Wee said should there be any change in the routes of the free school bus service, the container bus stop may be moved to a new location.
