TRYING to outsmart the police, a family hid a boy in the car boot as they wanted to pass a roadblock in Butterworth, Penang yesterday.
However, policemen manning the roadblock felt something was amiss and decided to check the car and found the boy hiding inside the boot of the Proton Waja.
It was driven by his stepmother and another boy was already seated inside the car.
As the SOPs state that only two are allowed in a car, they decided that it was best he hid in the booth.
In the 5pm incident, police had stopped the car that was heading from Butterworth towards Seberang Jaya at the Butterworth-Kulim Expressway (BKE).
According to the NST, Seberang Prai Tengah district police chief ACP Shafee Abd Samad said the woman told police she wanted to go to Tesco Seberang Jaya to get some clothes.
“Police personnel manning the road block then ordered her to stop by the side of the road for further checks. The personnel also ordered her to open the boot, only to find her stepson inside,” he said.
Shafee said the woman was issued with a compound for failure to produce a permit allowing her to travel from Butterworth to Seberang Jaya.
“We also advised the two boys as they are underage. The driver was also asked to turn back after the compound was issued,” he added.
