EVEN as all Bersatu Members of Parliament expressed their support for Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad to the King today, PKR lawmakers want Datuk Seri Anwar as the eighth Prime Minister.
“All our MPs who had audience with the Agong today expressed our support for Dr Mahathir to continue as prime minister,” Bersatu information chief Dr Mohd Radzi Jidin said in a statement.
“The party’s supreme council, which met on February 24 and was chaired by president Muhyiddin Yassin, has resolved to support Dr Mahathir as prime minister. The supreme council has also rejected Dr Mahathir’s resignation as party chairman,” he said.
Meanwhile, The Star reported that all PKR and Amanah MPs had expressed their support for Anwar to be the Prime Minister during their respective meetings with the King. This is an about-turn from their earlier stance of supporting Dr Mahathir, following his resignation as Prime Minister on Monday.
Wangsa Maju MP Tan Yee Kew had confirmed that she had signed a statutory declaration supporting Anwar as the PM.
Amanah communications director and Shah Alam MP Khalid Samad earlier posted on Twitter that Anwar should be given the chance to prove that he has enough support.
All 222 Members of the Dewan Rakyat would have a private audience with the King who would then decide on the next Prime Minister, following Dr Mahathir’s resignation on Monday. Dr Mahathir has since been made interim Prime Minister.
