THE state Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture has been urged to do something about public facilities and beaches in Miri as they are the city’s icons and tourist attraction.
Miri MP Dr Michael Teo said the ministry must take heed of the suggestion as Mirians do not have any other beaches apart from Luak Esplanade while those at Tanjung Lobang and Lutong had been given away to private companies.
“Mirians used to flock to beaches in Tanjung Lobang and Lutong but now are left with only the beach at Luak Esplanade to frequent,” Dr Teo said as reported by Borneo Post.
He claimed that both beaches were left idle after they were given away.
“People are scared to go to Tanjung Lobang as there is a sign put up there stating it is a private property,” Dr Teo said.
For the beach at Lutong, he said it used to host a hive of interesting activities, especially during weekends. The activities were motorcycle and car drag races, remote-control planes, para gliding, jogging, and picnicking.
“The Ministry of Tourism must do something about the beaches in Miri otherwise it will be left without any more beaches for the people to relax and unwind,” he added.
