A KAPITAN reportedly told flood victims in Kuching to ask DAP representatives to “suck the water out”, a party official from Kuching has claimed.

Michael Kong, a special assistant to the state DAP chairman said the unnamed Kapitan also told him that God was to be blamed for the natural disaster due to the persistent rain.

Kong said this was told to him by the Kapitan himself during the former’s walkabout yesterday to survey the flooding situation in Kuching when he bumped into the latter.

“Just when I thought that I have heard all types of excuses one can possibly hear, this morning’s incident left me gobsmacked and speechless,” Kong said in a media statement yesterday.

The encounter took place along Jalan Stakan in Kota Sentosa where many residents were moving their belongings to higher ground due to the flash floods. The Kapitan was in the area taking photos of the flooding.

Kong said the Kapitan told him that there was nothing the local authority could do to resolve the flooding problems.

“The said Kapitan even told the local residents to ask representatives of DAP to ‘suck the water out’,” Kong added.

This, he said, was a dereliction of duty  on the part of the ruling Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS), which controls the federal, state and the local authority Kota Sentosa fell under.

Kong added that if the GPS could not help the people, then the coalition could not be depended upon.

He also called on local governments to stop giving the “no budget” excuse when they could spend around RM60 million for a new council complex.

“The people have been taken for a ride for over 57 years. To this we say ‘enough is enough’. GPS should roll up their socks, buck up and get to work!” said Kong.
