941 new Covid-19 cases nationwide, below 1,000 for the first time since Dec 9

THE Health Ministry recorded 941 new Covid-19 cases today, a new low this year and the first time new daily infections were less than 1,000 since Dec 9 2020.

Selangor and Sarawak continue to top the list with 219 and 192 new cases respectively. Johor is the only other state with new infections in the three-digit range, at 171, according to statistics made available by Health Director-General Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.

Of the 192 new cases in Sarawak, 47 were from Miri, the rest from Bintulu (38), Sibu (33), Kuching (23), Samarahan (13), Sri Aman (8), Kanowit (7), Serian (7), Sarikei (6), Kapit (4), Sebauh (2), Bau (1), Lawas (1), Marudi (1) and Subis (1). Cumulatively, the state has recorded 16,061 Covid-19 cases so far, the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) said in a statement.

Two new deaths were also reported in the state, with the tally now at 105. They were a 62-year-old local woman who died in Miri Hospital and a 51-year-old local man who died in Bintulu Hospital.

The SDMC also declared a new cluster, Taman Vistagro, in Sri Aman. The index case was a man, 62, who could have contracted the virus due to his frequent trips to the Kuching district.

So far, 18 positive cases have been traced to this cluster.
