SOME 50 tonnes of personal protective equipment (PPE) and medical supplies will be distributed to 36 hospitals throughout Sarawak soon.
State Disaster Management Committee (JPBN) deputy chairman Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said the state government has acquired the supplies from China, which have been directly flown in from China.
“The items were flown in by a specially chartered Airbus A330 cargo freighter and everything has arrived safely (on Thursday),” he told the reporters at the Kuching International Airport (KIA).
There are 50,000 units of Medical Protective, KN95 Respirators totalling (125,880 units), Surgical Masks (900,000 units), Medical Protective Overalls (50,040 units) and Medical Protective Shoe Covers (50,040)
“We need to provide the much-needed protection for our frontliners, who are involved in the testing, diagnosing and treating of Covid-19 patients.”
The aircraft departed at 10.18am from Shanghai International Airport and arrived at KIA at 3.43pm on Thursday.
According to Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian said the state government has allocated RM10 million for the PPE and medical supplies.
“The items supposed to arrive last week, however, due to logistics issue in China, hence the cargo has been transported via land, from Shandong all the way to Shanghai airport, which is about 800km,” he wrote on his Facebook.
