15 healthcare workers among those infected with Covid-19

FIFTEEN healthcare workers have been infected with Covid-19, including one being warded in Intensive Care Unit requiring ventilatory support. Twelve of them, including the patient in ICU, are from the Ministry of Health while the remaining are from private healthcare providers.

Health direct0r-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah revealed this in a Facebook posting today He did not specify the nature of the patients’ jobs or where they were warded.

“This virus knows no boundaries, regardless of your race, religion or wealth status, even more so if you are a healthcare worker at the frontline of this war.

“Our simple message to the public today: Please help us to help you. Stay at home.”

Earlier, he urged the publicto be truthful in giving their medical history and whom they had come into close contact with.

“We had a few incidences this week where patients concealed their contacts and/or symptoms. Travel history and close contact information, for example, those linked to the jemaah tabligh gathering in Seri Petaling Mosque were also not being revealed.

“Only after clinical procedures and treatment were completed that such critical information was disclosed. By then, the safety of our healthcare workers and facilities had been jeopardised. It is a crime not to reveal or hide information.”
